How I'm Using... Yield Yak
Article II of highlighting sustainable strategies on AVAX. Let's crunch.
Yield Yak is a powerhouse, plain and simple. Yak Swap dex aggregator, auto-compounding farms, liquid staking, platform revenue-sharing, & more. The Yield Yak platform can be every HODLers and trader's best friend. Let’s dive in!
Yak Swap is a dex aggregator. When you use this swap function, it automatically compares rates across several exchanges on Avalanche. Pangolin, Platypus, Trader Joe, and more all are compared in real-time so users can get the best value for their trade.
If I wanted to sell 10 AVAX to USDC to realize some profit, Yield Yak automatically compares and provides proof of getting the best trade. Yak Swap is a great tool for traders which can help save you some money on swaps… but what about yield generation?
YAK is the native token for the Yield Yak protocol. YAK can be staked to earn 70% of platform revenue generated by Yield Yak. The YAK token can be staked in an auto-compounding farm to further increase your YAK bags, or you can accrue the AVAX from the platform.
YAK is a great example of a token that derives real revenue. Real revenue is sustainable revenue. Sustainable revenue can include platform fees or usage fees. Real revenue can also be derived from interest accrued by users on a given platform as debt. Yield Yak shared revenue is an example of the platform fee.
Yield Yak handles over 65 million in deposited assets; that’s no laughing matter. The token may be undervalued given the total supply is the circulating supply, and that it is revenue generating. The price is ~400 USD, let’s see where it stands in 2023! Staking the YAK token is a way to earn AVAX passively. YAK accrues platform fees, and these are shared in AVAX. APR is relative to the TVL on site, taking a % of farm rewards, which makes the revenue passed to users variable but sustainable.
Core to the Yield Yak thesis, they also offer this farm in an auto-compounding version. This allows you to stake YAK for more YAK.
Liquid Staking
With the launch of yyAVAX and the upcoming integration, I have been slowly adding yyAVAX to my portfolio. Like any good investor, I am a proponent of diversifying the source of my yield. Having a healthy balance of yyAVAX, sAVAX, and liquid AVAX allows me to manage both yield and risk in a highly sustainable way.
yyAVAX has several upcoming strategies to employ including Trader Joe LP farming in a standard dual reward farm. This farm will pay out depositors of the yyAVAX/USDC LP in JOE and yyAVAX rewards.
Moremoney announced plans to add yyAVAX as a CDP (collateralized debt position) on their platform. This means users can deposit yyAVAX into Moremoney and borrow their stablecoin MONEY. This money can be used similar to strategies discussed in last week’s substack.
Platypus Finance also announced support for yyAVAX integrations. This means you will be able to earn yields on deposited yyAVAX in PTP. Users will also be able to swap with a significantly lower price impact between yyAVAX, sAVAX, and AVAX thanks to the platypus liquid model.
My YY Strategy
I utilize Yield Yak for their DEX aggregator to get the best deals on my trades. I also use Yield Yak when my goal is to accrue more of a given asset. If I want to get more AVAX by only holding AVAX, Yield Yak allows me to constantly sell off farm rewards for more AVAX, all without lifting a finger. I currently have farm positions for the $YAK, $PNG, and the AVAX/sAVAX JLP token farm.
I also participate in liquid staking with yyAVAX. I plan to utilize it as a CDP on Moremoney when it goes live. This means I will have 3 concurrent positions open with Moremoney. My concurrent positions are sAVAX, GLP, and yyAVAX. Am I a Moremoney maxi? No (maybe). MONEY just has sound repegging mechanisms and the iMONEY vault prints. Below is a visual representation of my relative Moremoney positions, including yyAVAX.
